Louisville Geek Dinner

Tonight I went to the Louisville Geek Dinner and it was fun. I got to hang out with some cool people like, Michellej from Consuming Louisville and Lou from my loueyville blog. I also got to meet some new people. I got to act a little geeky by answering some questions about twitter. BBC was a great host and as always the food and beer was good.

Tomorrow I will be at the fair helping out a booth and enjoying the people watching. I hope to get a chance to walk around and take some pictures. I am still working on cleaning out my online pictures so I can post some more to this website. I am also trying to get the gadget to work that shows my flicker pictures but that does not appear to be going my way. Oh well maybe one day.

The job hunt is still going on and is getting harder by the day. Any one out there need a Great event planner with computer and people skills?

My Saturday Night

Tonight it was just me and the dogs and it was nice. Not that I don't love my roommates (my sisters) but every once and a while it is nice to have the house to myself. What did I do with all this alone time, I made dog treats. They are dog tested and approved. My dog, Dakota, laid at my feet the entire time I was making them. I did not have the heart to tell her that they are for a bake sale that is happening on Wednesday. You can check on the details on the Consuming Louisville Site. I am also going to make people treats and so is my mom. Everyone in the area should come and check it out.

This is the recipe I used to make the treats. Try it and enjoy.
Doggie Biscuits

3 ½ cups unbleached all-purpose flour
2 cups whole-wheat flour
1 cup rye flour
2 cups bulgur (cracked wheat)
1 cup cornmeal
½ cups instant nonfat dry-milk powder
4 teaspoons salt
1 envelope active dry yeast
¼ cup warm water
3 cups chicken broth

Glaze
1 egg, slightly beaten with 1 teaspoon milk

Pre-heat over 300 degrees
Mix first 7 ingredients together.
Dissolve yeast thoroughly in warm water (110 to 115 degrees) in glass measuring cup.
Add to dry ingredients.
Add chicken broth to flour mixture, stir until dough forms
Roll out dough to about ¼ inch thick. Use a dog bone shaped cookie cutter to cut out biscuits OR use a dog biscuit as a form and cut out around it.
Place on greased cookie sheet.
Brush with egg glaze.
Bake 45 minutes. Turn off oven. Biscuits should remain in oven overnight to harden.

Long time no Blog

I got a new computer last week and now I am back. The old one was a great computer and it will be missed but did not allow me to do all the things I wanted to do. I upgraded to a newer model. A Toshiba Satellite with web came built in, and bunches other stuff. Hooray for me.

Wedding #4

The final wedding that was on my books for this summer (at least that I know of) was last weekend. It was a very lovely very pink wedding. I love the color pink so the choice did not bother me. The wedding was at one of my favorite places to have an event in Louisville, The Olmstead. I have been to several events over the years there but this was the first time I had gone to a wedding there. It was very well done and the food was great.

The group of friends that were in attendance at this wedding it one of my first group of going out and having a great time friends, people I would hang out with till 4am and beyond just chillin and talking. Jason the groom, whom is an old a dear friend of mine was glowing with love for Casey his new wife, and a friend of mine through him. They both know how to have a wonderful party and I hope they are having fun on there honeymoon in Grease, so jealous BTW.

Over all my wedding season was a great one. I love wedding and I am putting some serious thought into starting an event planning business. I know I am good at events now I just have to convince other people of that and get them to pay me.

Weddings 2 and 3

Yes you read that right 2 and 3 and I have one more to go this coming weekend, that will make 4 in 5 weeks. #2 was a great friend of mine from middle school who I simply adore. He is one of the many kids my mom adoptedd and feed through middle and high school and a person I can truly call an old friend.

Wedding #3 was my cousin Nick. I have 7 cousins on my mom's side of the family. We are an extremely close Italian family that grew up no more then 15 minutes from each other in Louisville. Nick is the first grandchild to get married and boy did I hear about that from my grandfather. He is 5 years younger then me and 6 from the eldest (my sister) so grandpa reminded us we are behind in the great-grand children department. Oh well I am ok with that. The wedding was in my Aunt and Uncles backyard on a day that could not have been more perfect. The bride was stunning and the groom had love all over his face. My grandfather wore an all white tux that made him the hit of the party with all the ladies. We ate and drank in true Itilian tradition and dance the night away. I think I have the best family in the entire world and it is always a party when we get together. We truly had a great time and are all still livin to tell the story.

The Most Fancy Wedding

So if you read my comments, Kate pointed out I talked about her wedding but did not put up pictures from it. The pictures were on my P&S and I just now downloaded the pictures off of it.

Kate, a wonderful friend of mine from college as well as my lil sis (Go Sigma Sigma Sigma), got married on May 16th 2009 in St. Louis, MO (did you like you present?) I was excited for over a year about this wedding and it did not disappoint. My date was quite impressed as well, every time we talk about it her refers to it as the "fanciest wedding I have been too". Sit down dinner, DJ that did not play stupid songs, open bar, pretty dresses, the works. Kate's dress was beautiful and I might try to stell it one day. You can view some of the pictures on Kate's blog.

I have posted a few as well and will get some up on my flicker site hopefully soon. Kate you know how to throw one hell of a great party, I hope you had fun. I love you and CTW!

A Good Group of People

For the last two years I have been a member of the YPAL board of directors and really enjoy it. Last week we took a picture under one of many banners that are displayed on Main street in Louisville that display and promote the 10 years that YPAL has been around. I am very proud to be a member of this group and to serve on a board of such wonderful and intelligent people.

St. Louis: Good Times and Butterfly's

So this weekend I went to St. Louis for a great friends wedding. I had a lot of fun and got to catch up with lots of old friends. Champ went with me and actually had fun. We danced to great songs that reminded us of the college days. God love Kate for not letting the DJ play the usual wedding songs. You know the ones I am talking about.

While in STL Champ and I did some site seeing. We drove around a little downtown and then went to the Butterfly Conservatory. OMG that was awesome.
I could have spent the entire day in with all the different kinds of butterfly's and still wanted to go back. I took about 200 pcitures of the plants, flowers and butterflys and only stoped casue someone told me it was time to leave.

Overall it was a fun trip and Champ and I are still speaking. Not bad for the first trip together.

Hats Hats and More Hats

Ok so not really that many hats but I do have the pictures of the hats that sis and I made. Do you see a them? PINK! Everyone is encouraged to where pink in Oaks day so I now have a new pink dress and a hat with pink on it. It was hard for me to buy something in pink but I did if for a good cause. Ok so all of you know by now that is so not true. My favorite color is PINK so I am very excited that I will be surronded by it all day on Friday. Yes I do know I am a dork but what can I say Pink puts me in a happy place.

It's Derby Week in the City

One of my favorite times of year is Derby time. Don't get me wrong Louisville offers fun stuff all year but there is something special about this time of year. The vibe of the city changes, people are more energized, and things are brighter. Derby is always the first Saturday of May so the whether can be iffy but we keep out fingers crossed and hope for the best. One of the best Derby t-shirts that has ever been is "Work? It's Derby Week!". This kind of how I feel. Phones go silent, e-mail slows down, and as the week goes on the office staff thins out, included me.

I am heading out to Churchill Downs this year for Oaks, the filly's race. This year the Downs is donating $1 for ever tickets sold to the Susan G. Koman breast cancer foundation up to $135,000 so I am more then happy to help the cause. My sisters and I and some friends will be trying out the new Infield Club location, I hope to get some great pictures.

On Oaks and Derby it always makes it more festive to dress up and (if you are female) where a hat. Sis, Boo (other sister) and I decided to make our own hats this year. All of them turned out very good if I do say so myself. I will post pictures of them later today or tomorrow.

All in all this is going to be a fantastic week of fun and parties and hopefully lots of pictures for all to enjoy.

Spring flowers are in bloom and they are glorious. It is a very gloomy day here in Louisville KY so I am posting pictures of some flowers I took at my Aunts and Uncles house this weekend. They make me smile so maybe they will brighten your day as well.

Family Picture Day

On Saturday a photography friend of mine, Courtney Paris did a photo session for my family. It was my moms birthday presents and it was really fun. I took my D70 hoping to play a bit but instead gave it to my 11 niece (ok not my real niece but the closest thing I have for now). She took some really great shoots. I have not doctored them at all. I am going to try and take her shooting some more this spring and summer, she really enjoys it. The first two I took and the last two she took.

Why I heart Louisville

I am taking a post idea from my good friend Michelle, wanderthere.blogspot.com. I love Louisville. I grew up here and left for a bit and would not want to live anywhere else at this time in my life. It offers many things with still feeling like a warm and welcoming town. Read below to see why I heart my city.

The first place I take a visitor from out of town is: Churchill Downs.

When I crave fresh air I always go to a metro park.

To escape real life I head to Actors Theater.

If I want to play outside I go to Seneca Park.

For complete quiet, I can hide away at Cave Hill.

If you come to my city, get your picture taken with Muhammad Ali, Colonel Sanders (or his grave site), Hunter S. Thompson, Secretariat statue, Rick Patino, the worlds largest bat, the famous twin spires, Bourbon, the mayor, beautiful green space and lots more.

If you have to order one thing off the menu from Ramsi's it has to be Pork Port and Pears.

Westport Village is my one-stop shop for great local everything.

Locals know to skip 4th Street and check out Baxter Ave instead.

When I'm feeling cash-strapped I go the parks ,they are free.

For a huge splurge I go Nappa River Grill.

Photo ops in my city include the waterfront and the best vantage points are from S. Indiana, the bridges, downtown Louisville, the Jefferson Club, rooftop garden in 21c, waterfront park, Rivew.

If my city were a celebrity it'd be Muhammad Ali.

The most random thing about my city is it is the biggest small town you could ever visit.

In my city, an active day outdoors involves the zoo, a park, the waterfront, bike paths and more.

My city's best museum is the Louisville Science Center.

My favorite jogging/walking route is though Seneca Park.

For a night of dancing, go to Flanagan's Ale House or, for live music, check out Headliners.

Twig and Leaf is the spot for late-night eats.

To find out what's going on at night and on the weekends, read Velocity.

You can tell a lot about my city from the people.

You can tell if someone is from my city if they ask where you went to school ,and they mean High School.

In the spring you should help Birghtside clean-up so make the city ever prettier then it is.

In the summer you should play in the waterfront fountains, its free.

In the fall you should take a long walk and see all the pretty tress in the parks.

In the winter you should Get some hot drinks at Java and sit by the fire.

A hidden gem in my city is Sweet Surrender.

For a great breakfast joint try Wild Eggs.

Don't miss the Derby, idea fest or forecatle festivals in May, July and Sept.

Just outside my city, you can visit 7 Bourbon distillery in one day.

The best way to see my city is on a bike or on the trolley hop.

If my city were a pet it would be Dog, mans best friend.

If I didn't live in a city, I'd live in Savanna, GA.

When I think about my city, the song that comes to mind is Happy birthday, written here.

Derby could only happen in my city.

Well the boys had a great season but today was the end of the road for U of L men. However the women are still going strong. They made it to the elite 8. Also on the Amazing Race the team from Louisville is still in the running.

My plumbing is fixed and I could not be more excited about it. I had a hot plumber in my attic on Saturday and I have new pips, not a bad weekend all and all. My kitchen is still pulled apart but hey a girl can't have it all in one day, right?

I will get some pictures up tomorrow (I hope). The family was all together today and I got to get some really cute ones of kids playing as well and the Red, White and Black to cheer on the CARDS.

Have a great week everyone!

Go Cards!!!!! As some of you may know by now I am a really really big Cards fan. I will be cheering on the boys tomorrow night and the girls on Saturday. Who's with me?

So I have been playing around with some editing software and figured out how to attache my name to the photos I am taking. Thanks to some help from C.

Now if everything else would be that easy for me. I found out today that I might have a MAJOR leak somewhere in my pipes under my house or in my walls. All in all it is going to take a lot of time and money to get fixed and that just sucks. There is also a smell that is coming from somewhere in my house that I can not find and it is making me and sis, the roommate, sick. All in all my week is going GREAT. But hey i did get to play with my camera and pictures.

That time of year

So it is the time of year when I have to make up my mine if I want to run for the YPAL BOD again. I decided today that yes I will but I also will not be all the hurt if I am not selected. I have loved the two years I have put in and really think that I have made somewhat of an impact on the organization as a whole.

If you are interested in joining the board applications are due this week. It really is a great experience and you meet and get to work with great people. Contact me if you want more info.

Another one at Churchill on Friday.

A picture I took on Friday at Churchill Downs. It reminds me of something my friend Christiana would take.

I am new to this

I have doing social media for a while now but never done blogging. Due largely to the fact that I know I do not spell well nor due I edit what I write to the standers that most people would ask for. But now I am over that. Read if you want but please remember I warned you to the fact that I know I spell poorly as well as I do not always use the correct word of form of a word.

I just got a new camera, Nikon D70, and I think this will be a good outlet for me to post pics of what I take. I am know to always have my p&s with me so some pics will be from my mini Nikon.

I hope to capture so really cool things about the city of Louisville from my camera. Derby is right around the corner so I hope to get some of the great things that go on around town to show off.

Alright enough for my first post. Have a great day everyone.
