My Saturday Night

Tonight it was just me and the dogs and it was nice. Not that I don't love my roommates (my sisters) but every once and a while it is nice to have the house to myself. What did I do with all this alone time, I made dog treats. They are dog tested and approved. My dog, Dakota, laid at my feet the entire time I was making them. I did not have the heart to tell her that they are for a bake sale that is happening on Wednesday. You can check on the details on the Consuming Louisville Site. I am also going to make people treats and so is my mom. Everyone in the area should come and check it out.

This is the recipe I used to make the treats. Try it and enjoy.
Doggie Biscuits

3 ½ cups unbleached all-purpose flour
2 cups whole-wheat flour
1 cup rye flour
2 cups bulgur (cracked wheat)
1 cup cornmeal
½ cups instant nonfat dry-milk powder
4 teaspoons salt
1 envelope active dry yeast
¼ cup warm water
3 cups chicken broth

Glaze
1 egg, slightly beaten with 1 teaspoon milk

Pre-heat over 300 degrees
Mix first 7 ingredients together.
Dissolve yeast thoroughly in warm water (110 to 115 degrees) in glass measuring cup.
Add to dry ingredients.
Add chicken broth to flour mixture, stir until dough forms
Roll out dough to about ¼ inch thick. Use a dog bone shaped cookie cutter to cut out biscuits OR use a dog biscuit as a form and cut out around it.
Place on greased cookie sheet.
Brush with egg glaze.
Bake 45 minutes. Turn off oven. Biscuits should remain in oven overnight to harden.
